A Verse of Ghalib
Question
At a wedding celebration Zayd presented to his friend a congratulatory address (impressions) which he had written in prose, and in it he cited, by way of illustration, this verse of Ghalib: [ar]نکلنا خلد سے آدم کا سنتے آئے تھے لیکن ٭ بڑے بے آبرو ہو کر تیرے کوچہ سے ہم نکلے[/ar] “We had long heard of Adam’s going forth from Paradise, but ٭ in far greater disgrace did we go forth from your lane”. Bakr objected that by reciting this verse Zayd had — Allah forbid — insulted Hazrat Adam ﵇.
Answer
Allah the Pure made Hazrat Adam ﵇ His vicegerent (khalifa) and Abu al-Bashar (the father of all mankind) and placed him amid the bounties of Paradise; then an event occurred on account of which He sent him down to the earth. Outwardly this event is one of great admonition.
