The Belief That a Dev Can Take the Form of a Prophet

Question

What is the punishment in the Sacred Law of one who holds that the ring went to a dev (an evil spirit) and that a dev or the like can take on the form and appearance of a prophet of Allah?

Answer

This belief is absurd and wrong; repentance from this belief of his is obligatory upon him. The scholars of Islam have stated explicitly that no devil can appear in the form of any prophet. Concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ it is found in the hadiths themselves that Satan cannot assume his form. And the verifying scholars (muhaqqiqin)
