The Ascension of ‘Isa ﵇
Question
What should a Muslim’s belief be concerning Hazrat ‘Isa ﵇: that he was raised alive to heaven with body and soul, or should the belief be that his soul was raised? Or should it be: whether he was raised with body and soul we cannot say, since there is no explicit statement about it in the Qur’an?
Answer
Concerning ‘Isa ﵇ the Jews hold the belief that he was killed and crucified, and that only his soul was raised; a large sect of the Christians says the same. The Holy Qur’an refuted this: [ar]وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينًۢا بَل رَّفَعَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ[/ar] “And they certainly did not kill him. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself” (Surah al-Nisa, 4:157–158).
