All the Noble Companions Are Upright
Question
If a person, looking at historical events, passes judgement between the noble Companions as to who was in the right and who in the wrong, is such a judgement correct or not? If he calls one of them right and another wrong, is it permissible to pray behind such a person or not? And if there is a right to call (any of them)
Answer
All the noble Companions ﵃ are deserving of respect; insolence and insult against the dignity of any of them is not permissible; concerning their disputes (mushajarat) the ruling is to hold one’s tongue (kaff al-lisan). Although it is true that some of them are superior to others, yet it is not correct to say of any of them that he was in error.
