Plural and Singular Forms in the Qurʼan

Question

Someone says that in the Holy Qur'an there is no singular form [in God's speech about Himself] except in a few places, since the wording of the Qur'an is expressed in the plural; on this basis, in Sufism (tasawwuf) too the tawhid of the Essence is supposedly not manifest, because in Sufism tawhid is divided [into kinds]. In the Wise Qur'an, for example: [ar]نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ[/ar] “We have sent down the Reminder” (beginning of the verse; Surah al-Hijr, 15:9)

Answer

The plural form is also used for the singular — this usage is common and countless in the Arabic and Persian languages. Therefore, to take the plural everywhere as indicating multiplicity and to regard this as contrary to tawhid is a complete error.
