Celebrating the Qurʼan’s “Birthday”
Question
Question: These days, newspapers and radio keep announcing that, with the completion of the fourteenth [Hijri] century since the revelation of the Holy Qur'an and the beginning of the fifteenth century, a ceremonial khatm of the Qur'an is being held everywhere. Indeed, some have set the coming Ramadan as the time for this event, and others the ‘Id al-Adha, [insisting] that it must be carried out within this period: we will simply invite and gather the whole town and arrange a Qur'an recitation.
Answer
The Holy Qur'an is the blessed Word of Allah ﷻ, boundless in majesty and all-encompassing in mercy, and it is a lasting programme of action for this umma. Its recitation carries immense reward; believing in it is the essence of faith; acting upon it is the path to salvation.
