Which Is Superior — the Qurʼan’s Cover or the Kaaba’s Covering?

Question

Question: Zayd says that Hazrat Thanawi ﵀, in a sermon delivered in Panipat in 1330 AH, expounded an important matter: that the cover of the Word of Allah is superior to the covering of the House of Allah. Since the Word of Allah is among His eternal, everlasting attributes, and there is a bond of unity between an attribute and the one it describes.

Answer

This matter does not belong to the essential requisites of the religion (daruriyyat al-din), on which the validity of faith or the performance of obligatory duties would depend — it is merely at the level of a purely academic, subtle point. One should not engage in disputes over such matters.
