Some Points Concerning the Shar‘i Texts
Question
Are the shar‘i rulings of Islam, which have been placed upon the Muslim on the strength of definitive (qat‘i) [religious] texts, subject to change or alteration at any time, or not? (2) Does any individual among the ulama possess the shar‘i right to amend or abrogate that which is established by definitive texts? (3) Is the Noble Qur’an Islamic law or not? If it is Islamic law, does this law possess the full right to remain in force until the Day of Judgement, or not? (4)
Answer
All the matters you have written are self-evident (badihi) to people of knowledge. If, however, due to a conflict of proofs, or due to the preferred (rajih) proof not being determined against the less preferred (marjuh), some doubt should arise, it too can be clarified.
