Why Saying “I Gave Jawab” Three Times Gives Only One Irrevocable Talaq
Question
No reference to any book has been given in this answer from which we might gain assurance. In view of this passage of Fatawa Imdadiyya, three talaqs are determined, whereas here they are not three. “Question: My husband Zayd, in a state of anger, said these words to me: «اگر شام تک میرے گھر نہ آئی تو میری طرف سے جواب ہے» (“If you do not come to my house by evening, then from my side it is jawab” — literally “answer”; colloquially, “dismissal”), etc.
Answer
The answer from here was concise, while the answer of Hazrat Thanawi ﵀ is detailed; the conclusion of both answers is one and the same, namely: this word is by custom an allusive expression of talaq when it is said with regard to the wife, and an irrevocable (ba‘in) talaq results from it.
