Talaq by the Word “Istifa” (“Resignation”)

Question

Question: Zayd goes to his in-laws’ home; there a dispute arises concerning his brother-in-law (his wife’s brother), and matters escalate. His wife was not present at the time. His mother-in-law said: “What kind of gentleman (sharif) are you? Your brothers and kinsfolk cause my daughter hardships.” At this Zayd said: «میں اگر اصل کا ہوں گا، تو تمہاری لڑکی کو یہیں بھیج جاؤں گا» (“If I am of true lineage (asl), I will send your daughter right here”). After that Zayd left.

Answer

Among Zayd’s quoted words there is no word whose meaning is talaq, or which is used for talaq in our custom (‘urf), or in which there is such a possibility (ihtimal) of talaq as would be taken into account.
