Talaq by the Words “I Do Not Keep”

Question

Question: A man, in a state of anger, has twice said to his wife: «میں تجھے نہیں رکھتا» (“I do not keep you”). Has talaq taken effect by this or not? Can that man keep this woman in his house or not? For our imam has said that only if this woman’s nikah with this same man is performed again can he then keep her in his house.

Answer

If he said only this much, no talaq has taken effect by it; the nikah stands, and keeping this woman is permissible.
