The imam completing the Qur’an twice in tarawih
Question
A hafiz in one mosque in the month of blessed Ramadan completed the Noble Qur’an within ten or twelve days, reciting it [to the people] in tarawih. Then in another mosque, where the people had not heard a khatm of the Noble Qur’an, the hafiz recited a tarawih khatm to them. Is this correct? For the followers it was a sunna to hear the Qur’an once in the whole of blessed Ramadan, and for the hafiz it was a sunna to recite the Noble Qur’an once.
Answer
[ar]السُّنَّةُ فِي التَّرَاوِيحِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ الْخَتْمُ مَرَّةً، وَالْخَتْمُ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَضِيلَةٌ، وَالْخَتْمُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ أَفْضَلُ[/ar] “The sunna in tarawih is only completing [the Qur’an] once; completing it twice is a virtue (fadila), and completing it three times is more virtuous” (“‘Alamgiri”, p. 117, vol. 1).
