On the Night of Qadr, worship alone is better than a shabina
Question
The Night of Qadr in blessed Ramadan is the most virtuous. Which of these two deeds is better: to worship on the 27th night — reciting the Qur’an, nafl prayer, salawat, istighfar and the like — or to go to a shabina (completing the Qur’an in a single night) and take part in the khatm of the Qur’an?
Answer
Nowadays so many evils (mafasid) have arisen in the shabina that its very permissibility is in question, let alone its being better. Therefore worship alone is better. For example: collecting donations for it, in which the [Shar‘i] limits are not observed; extravagance in lighting and the like; summoning [people] (tada‘i)
