What Should Be Recited After Each Tarwih (Four Rak‘ahs) in Tarawih
Question
In Tarawih, some people recite tasbih after every two rak‘ahs and tasbih and supplication after every four rak‘ahs. Is this according to the Shariah or is it an innovation? Also, after Tarawih some people stand in the courtyard of the mosque and loudly send salutations upon the prophets. What is the ruling regarding this?
Answer
The resting pause (jalsat al-istirahah) is prescribed after four rak‘ahs, not after two. During this pause, one may choose to: recite tasbih, send salawat, seek forgiveness (istighfar), recite Qur’an, make supplication (dua). There is flexibility in these acts, and one should not insist on any single specific form. Sending salutations upon the prophets (peace be upon them)
