The Language of the Heavenly Scriptures
Question
Question: In what language were the Taurat (Torah), the Zabur (Psalms), the Injil (Gospel), and the scrolls of Ibrahim ﵇ and Musa ﵇ — Arabic or Syriac? Can the language of these books be established from the Qur’an and hadith, apart from [recourse to] history, or not? If it can, please set this out; and if it can be known only from history, please set it out with reference to books — [the books] that were sent down upon Hazrat ‘Isa ﵇, Musa ﵇, and Hazrat Dawud ﵇.
Answer
The sending-down of every Book took place in the Arabic language; then each messenger translated that Book into the language of his people and explained it [to them]. On the Day of Resurrection the language of all will be Syriac. Then, when people enter Paradise, their language will become Arabic.
