The Compilation of the Qur’an, Tarawih, and the Like — Their Ruling
Question
The words 'as-salatu khayrun min an-nawm', which are recited in the Fajr adhan, and likewise those who pray Tarawih — is this also an innovation of Hazrat 'Umar ﵁ and a bid'a as well? And [is it also bid'a that] the Noble Word of Allah was gathered together in one place in the time of Hazrat Abu Bakr ﵁? Is it correct for Zayd to say so, or not?
Answer
Saying 'as-salatu khayrun min an-nawm' in the Fajr adhan is established by hadith — this is not bid'a. In the noble hadith, the venerable Messenger of Allah ﷺ, naming both Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Hazrat 'Umar al-Faruq ﵄, quite plainly commanded that they be followed and emulated. So whatever act of the religion is established from these two noble men is not bid'a.
