The price of sacrificial hides for having a well built
Question
Question: May the price of the sacrificial hide be spent on the construction of some public well? In the Muslims’ neighbourhood there is a well which has collapsed; the Muslims of the neighbourhood are poor and destitute and cannot have it built by collecting donations; there is a severe shortage of water; the water of this well was also used in the mosque. A certain gentleman wants to have the well demolished and rebuilt with the price of the sacrificial hides.
Answer
If the one performing the sacrifice sells the hide, then giving its price away as sadaqa is wajib. If the poor person to whom that price is given, after becoming its owner and taking possession of it, gives it for building a well, then spending it on the construction is correct.
