Buying land for a graveyard and making it waqf with the price of sacrificial hides
Question
Question: In a certain village there is no graveyard, so difficulty arises in burying the dead of the poor. Therefore a collection of donations was made in the village so that land could be bought and made waqf. May the money from sacrificial hides be used for purchasing the land or not, given that a considerable sum is needed for the land?
Answer
When the sacrificial hide has been sold, it is wajib to give its price away as sadaqa. However, if the person to whom it was given as sadaqa, after becoming its owner and taking possession of it, gives it for the graveyard land, and no pressure or coercion of any kind is put on him, then spending this sum on buying land for the graveyard is also permissible.
