The Ruling on the Water When Impure Pieces of Sugarcane Are Thrown into a Well
Question
In the corner of the Congregational Mosque there is a well from which both Hindus and Muslims draw water when they need it. The parapet of the well is one gaz (a unit of length, about a yard, ≈ 0.9 m) above ground level. The children of Hindus and Muslims pass by the well, and they throw into this very well the impure pieces of sugarcane from the road, which the sweeper clears out of the drain and puts to one side. The water for those who pray at the mosque is taken from this same well.
Answer
When it is established that something impure has fallen into the well, the well will become impure. Arrangements for its protection should be made, by having the parapet raised or in whatever way is suitable. And the well will not be called impure merely on account of suspicion.
