Errors of Fatha and Kasra in the Transitional Takbirs and the Tashahhud

Question

In “Fatawa Dar al-‘Ulum Deoband” by Mufti ‘Aziz al-Rahman it is stated that reading a kasra in place of a fatha or the reverse makes the prayer fasid. The question is: does such an error make the prayer fasid only in the qira’a? A certain appointed imam habitually reads the “ع” in “سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ” with a kasra — surely the prayer will not become fasid by this?

Answer

The criterion is the corruption of the meaning. In some places the meaning is corrupted by an error of kasra and fatha. If an error of kasra and fatha occurs in the tashahhud and in the transitional takbir (takbir al-intiqal), the prayer will not become fasid. In the qira’a, whether the error occurs before three verses or after, the ruling for all is the same. (a)
