Reciting “جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً” Instead of “جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا”
Question
In the Fajr prayer the imam recited Surah al-Naba’. After “إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا” (78:25), instead of “جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا” (78:26) he recited “جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا…” (78:36). In such a case, is the prayer valid or not? Two kinds of opinion have arisen here: some said the prayer is not valid because the meaning was corrupted; others said the meaning was not corrupted, rather the subject matter changed.
Answer
In the case described, if he made the end of the verse at “وَغَسَّاقًا” (i.e. stopped at the verse’s end), the prayer did not become fasid (invalid).
