Saying something into the ear of the deceased and kissing him in the grave
Question
Zayd died. When he was being lowered into the grave, the words: [ar]بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ[/ar] “In the name of Allah and upon the religion (milla) of the Messenger of Allah” were not said; and after he had been placed in the grave, some supplication was recited into his ear and he was kissed. What is the ruling on this according to the Shari‘a?
Answer
If, when placing [the deceased] in the lahd, the words: [ar]بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ[/ar] “In the name of Allah and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah” were not said, there is no sin: one mustahabb act was omitted.
