Showing the face of the deceased in the grave

Question

What is the ruling on showing the face of the dead person inside the grave, or outside the grave in the graveyard? What basis does this have in the Shari‘a?

Answer

There is no basis for this in the Shari‘a. The special concern that in some places, after placing [the deceased] in the grave, the kafan is undone and the face is shown, is baseless; the Shari‘a gives no emphasis to it.
