Showing the face of the deceased to non-Muslims at burial
Question
If a believing servant [of Allah] dies and, at the time of burial, in front of the graveyard, non-Muslims — Hindus, Christians and others — come and demand: “We are acquaintances of this deceased and he was our friend; let us be shown the face of the deceased,” and if they do not see it there is fear of harm, uproar and disturbance — is it permissible in this situation, before the [funeral] prayer or after the prayer, to show these non-Muslims the face of the deceased or not?
Answer
It is permissible; but if there is no fear of serious harm, they should be refused, for that is the most cautious course (ahwat).
