Explanation of the Term “Yawm al-Qarr”
Question
Question: [ar]إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ الْأَيَّامِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ ثُمَّ يَوْمُ الْقَرِّ[/ar] “Truly, the greatest of days with Allah is the Day of Sacrifice (yawm al-nahr), then yawm al-qarr” (Mishkat, p. 232). Since there are three days of sacrifice, what does the word “yawm al-qarr” mean? Are there not three days of sacrifice for the pilgrims? If there are, why was “yawm al-qarr” said?
Answer
[ar]نَحْمَدُهُ وَنُصَلِّي عَلَى رَسُولِهِ الْكَرِيمِ[/ar] “We praise Him and invoke blessings upon His noble Messenger.” [ar]إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ الْأَيَّامِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ ثُمَّ يَوْمُ الْقَرِّ[/ar] “Truly, the greatest of days with Allah is the Day of Sacrifice, then the Day of al-Qarr” (hadith; Mishkat, p. 232).
