Hajj Has Two Pillars
Question
If a Muslim, with the intention of Hajj, puts on the sheets of ihram, performs the standing (wuquf) at ‘Arafat and also performs tawaf al-ziyara, has his Hajj been accomplished, and will he receive the full reward of Hajj or not?
Answer
Hajj has two pillars (rukn): the standing at ‘Arafat (wuquf) and tawaf al-ziyara. If these are performed in the state of ihram, the Hajj will be accomplished. The remaining acts of Hajj are wajib, sunna and mustahabb: for omitting them sadaqa or the like becomes due, or else the reward is diminished.
