Hajj Performed Before Having the Means (Istita‘a)
Question
Question: A poor man (miskin), while in a state of poverty, somehow performed Hajj, and then he became wealthy. Should he perform the obligatory Hajj again?
Answer
If he performed the Hajj on his own behalf, then a repeat Hajj is not fard upon him now because he has become wealthy. If, however, he performed Hajj badal (proxy Hajj), then now, having become wealthy, it is necessary for him to perform his own Hajj (al-Bahr, vol. 2, p. 325 and vol. 3, p. 74, vol. 2).
