Loss of Money Does Not Remove the Obligation of Hajj

Question

Question: It has been 26 years since Hajj became fard upon Zayd. With that money Zayd bought raw sugar, since there were still many days left before setting out for Hajj. As fate would have it, in the meantime the sugar was seized by the government, and all the money there was came to nothing, and Zayd remained deprived of Hajj. Now Providence has again granted an opportunity: his sons are sending him on Hajj to the House of Allah with their own money.

Answer

He did not keep the money safe but put it into trade, because of which it was lost; therefore the obligation (farida) of Hajj has not ended but remains upon him. If the sons are giving money and he performs Hajj with it, the obligation of Hajj will be discharged.
