Some forms of disobedience to the husband
Question
Is it permissible for Hinda, without the permission of her husband Khalid, to step out of her house by day or by night to go to someone else’s house — to exchange Eid greetings, or to show some guest woman the houses of the people of the village or of the biradari (a kinship or caste community) or to arrange for her to meet them, or to listen to a sermon, or for some other purpose, even if it is the house of her son-in-law?
Answer
(1, 2) Matters that are mubah (permissible) in the Sacred Law and which the woman is able to do — that is, she can do them without unbearable hardship — become wajib for her by virtue of the husband’s command. However, obeying the husband in sin (ma‘siya) is impermissible. Hence Hinda’s going, against her husband’s wishes, to the “ghar das” (?)
