Are the prayer and fasting of a woman who goes wherever she likes without her husband’s consent accepted?

Question

A certain woman is regular in fasting and prayer, but goes wherever she pleases against her husband’s wishes. Will her prayer and fasting be accepted or not?

Answer

To perform what God has made fard (prayer and the like), the husband’s permission is not needed; if the husband forbids it, then obeying him in this is also impermissible. However, without the husband’s permission she is not allowed to go anywhere — to her mother, sister and the like; if there is a pressing necessity, that is another matter.
