An Objection to Iqbal’s Verses and Its Answer

Question

What is the ruling of the Sacred Law concerning a person whose verses are the following? [ar]ز من بر صوفی و ملا سلامے ٭ که پیغام خدا گفتند ما را[/ar] [ar]ولے تاویل شان در حیرت انداخت ٭ خدا و جبرئیل و مصطفی را[/ar] “From me, greetings to the Sufi and the mulla ٭ for they conveyed to us the message of God;” “But their interpretation cast into bewilderment ٭ God, Gabriel and Mustafa” (Iqbal).

Answer

[ar]بِعَوْنِ الْمَلِكِ الْوَهَّابِ، مُبَسْمِلًا وَمُحَمِّدًا وَمُصَلِّيًا وَمُسَلِّمًا[/ar] “With the help of the King, the All-Bestowing — with the basmala, praise, blessing and salutation.” Poets, as a rule, do not observe the limits of the Sacred Law but overstep them; often their speech is a bundle of lies, and yet they are deemed deserving of applause.
