The Story That Allah Ordered Musa ﵇ to Bring the Filthiest Thing
Question
The matter requiring inquiry is this: I heard from the tongues of several Muslims that Musa ﵇ was commanded on Mount Tur: “Go into the world and bring the thing that is the filthiest of all.” He came into the world, and there lay a dead dog from which a very strong stench was rising; he picked it up and brought it — and this pleased Allah the Exalted very much. Now kindly grant the answer to this; besides, let it be written, with a reference, whether this is correct or not.
Answer
This story is not found in the Holy Qur’an or in any other reliable religious book, nor has any mention of it come in any reliable book of hadith. By reason, too, such a judgement appears wrong: Allah the Exalted is not pleased by a filthy thing; rather, He is pleased by pure, clean, good, righteous deeds.
