Which Is Superior — the Qur’an or a Sayyid?

Question

Someone asked a certain religious scholar about the rank of the Prophet ﷺ and the rank of the Holy Qur’an. He replied: “This issue is delicate and above the understanding of common people.” But the questioner was a Sayyid (a descendant of the Prophet ﷺ), whose belief is: “We are superior to the Holy Qur’an by virtue of being the offspring of Bibi Fatima ﵂; therefore observance of the Sacred Law is not necessary for us.

Answer

This saying of the ignorant Sayyid is founded on utter ignorance. Observance of the radiant Sacred Law was necessary for Bibi Fatima ﵂ herself, for her husband Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁, and for her father, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: “If my daughter Fatima were to steal (may Allah protect us from that), I would cut off her hand too.
