Surah Luqman (لقمان)

• 31:1

  الٓمٓ

  Alif Laam Meem. (Only Allaah knows the correct meaning of these letters.)

• 31:2

  تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

  These are Aayaat of the Wise Book (the Qur'aan)...

• 31:3

  هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ

  (which is) a (means of) guidance and mercy for those who do good...

• 31:4

  ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ

  ...those who establish salaah, who pay zakaah and who are convinced about the (coming of the) Aakhirah.

• 31:5

  أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

  These people are (firmly stationed) upon guidance from their Rabb and they are the truly successful ones (who will attain eternal salvation in the Aakhirah).

• 31:6

  وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ

  There are some people who purchase (buy) futile (useless) discourse (pastimes that distract people from thinking of Allaah) to deviate (others) from Allaah's path (Islaam) without knowledge and they mock it (Islaam, so that every regard for Islaam may disappear from people's hearts). There shall be a humiliating punishment for these people.

• 31:7

  وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

  When Our Aayaat are recited to them, they arrogantly turn away as if they have not heard them, as if there is a prop in their ears. Pass on (convey) to them the good news of an excruciating (painful) punishment (that lies in store for them).
