The Holy Quran 31:21 — Surah Luqman

Arabic text

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

Translation

(These people are so stubborn and set in their wrong ways that) When it is said to them, "Follow what Allaah has revealed (to the Ambiyaa عليهم الصلاة والسلام)," they say, "We will (rather) follow what we found our forefathers doing." Will they (be so foolish to) follow their forefathers even though Shaytaan called their forefathers to the punishment of the Blaze (even though their forefathers committed kufr and Shirk at Shaytaan's bidding)?

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا قيل لهؤلاء المجادلين في توحيد الله وإفراده بالعبادة: اتبعوا ما أنزل الله على نبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم قالوا: بل نتبع ما كان عليه آباؤنا من الشرك وعبادة الأصنام، أيفعلون ذلك، ولو كان الشيطان يدعوهم؛ بتزيينه لهم سوء أعمالهم، وكفرهم بالله إلى عذاب النار المستعرة؟
