Raising donations on a commission basis

Question

In a religious madrasa fundraisers have been appointed, both local and out-of-town. Many arrangements come up concerning their salaries. Until now the practice has been that the fundraiser is given a fixed monthly salary, and the out-of-town fundraiser is allotted, in addition to the salary, 4 or 5 rupees a day for food during the days of travel.

Answer

Appointing a fundraiser in such a way that, of whatever is collected apart from the amounts of zakat, sadaqa, fitra, nadhr and isal al-thawab, half, a third, etc., of what remains after the expenses of the railway, bus and so on will be given to him as salary, is wrong and contrary to the Shari‘a.
