Appointing a fundraiser for a madrasa on commission

Question

A collector has been engaged to collect donations for a madrasa on the condition that, of whatever he collects, a half or a third will be given to him. Is this permissible or impermissible?

Answer

It is impermissible. [ar]ومنها (أي من شروط صحة العقد) أن تكون الأجرة معلومة[/ar] “And among them (i.e. among the conditions for the validity of the contract) is that the wage be known” (Alamgiri, vol. 3, p. 109).
