Taking One Mosque’s Ewer, Mats and the Like for Another Mosque on a Promise to Return Them
Question
May ewers for ablution, mats and the like be taken from one mosque for another mosque on a promise to return them, or not? Kindly inform us of the Sharʿi rulings on the above matters and put an end to the dispute among the people of the neighbourhood connected with the mosque.
Answer
These things should not be taken even on a promise to return them. However, if there they are in excess of need, they may be bought; if there is objection to selling them, they should not be bought, and arrangements should be made from elsewhere.
