Reciting One’s Litany by the Mosque Lamp
Question
The oil and the like and the lighting that are in the mosque — may they be used only for the prayer itself, up to the time when the ʿIsha prayer ends, or may the worshippers, the imam of the mosque or some other person use this light at the time of reciting the Noble Qurʾan or litanies, or not?
Answer
As long as the light customarily remains on for the prayer, reciting the Noble Qurʾan, litanies and the like by that light is undoubtedly correct. After that, that is, when the light — the lamp — is put out, lighting it with the permission of the one who gave the oil and reciting the Noble Qurʾan and the like by it is correct; without permission one should not.
