Keeping One’s Trade Goods in the Mosque Cupboard
Question
A certain respected religious scholar teaches children in the mosque, and he also has his own house. Despite having a house, he keeps books for trade in the mosque’s cupboard, which is right in the place of worship. Is this permissible or not?
Answer
A cupboard is made in the mosque so that the mosque’s things may be kept in it, for example the Noble Qurʾan, a fan, prayer mats and the like. No one has the right to keep his own goods for trade there on a permanent basis; the cupboard should be emptied.
