Selling the Items of a Mosque
Question
Is it permissible to buy a mosque’s tin sheets, low wooden platform, bamboo and the like and use them in one’s own house or in another mosque? Also, may the residents of the neighbourhood sell the property of an abandoned or non-abandoned mosque, that is, its pillars and so on? Explain, and be rewarded.
Answer
Selling those items of a mosque which are waqf is impermissible. As for those which are not waqf but were given to the mosque by someone, or were bought for it, to meet a temporary need — once the need has been fulfilled, selling them is permissible.
