Selling the Materials of an Old Mosque and Using Them for the Imam’s Chamber

Question

People want to demolish a mud-brick mosque and build it of fired brick. The materials taken down from this mud-brick mosque cannot be used in the brick one, so new and better materials have been bought. Yet the old materials are not so worthless that they should be thrown away; on the contrary, all of them are useful and serviceable. Is it permissible to have a chamber built at the mosque with these materials or not?

Answer

It is better that these very materials be used in the mosque. If using them in the mosque as they are is difficult, they should be sold with the approval of the residents of the neighbourhood and the ruler, and with their price similar materials should be bought and used in the mosque.
