Demolishing an Old Mosque and Using Its Materials in the New Mosque or Selling Them
Question
If an old mosque is demolished and, with enlargement, a new mosque is built, and some materials of that old mosque, such as bricks, timber and the like, are left over, is it permissible to sell them or not?
Answer
Whatever materials of the old mosque are of no use in building the new mosque should be sold, and with their price materials useful for building the new mosque should be bought. As for the materials of the old mosque that are sold, it is better that they be put to the use of some mosque; if someone buys them and uses them in his residential house, there is scope for that too.
