The Materials of the Old Mosque Are of No Use in the New Mosque: Is It Correct to Sell Them?

Question

If none of the materials of the old mosque — brick, stone and wood — are of any use for the new mosque being built, may the materials of the old mosque in that case be sold and the sum be put into the construction of the new mosque? And may the buyer of the old mosque’s materials use them in building his own house?

Answer

Since those materials are of no use in the new mosque, they should be sold and other materials bought for the mosque with the price. The buyer of those materials may put them to his own use — let him use them wherever needed, in construction and so on.
