Selling the Old Floor Tiles of a Mosque and Spending the Price on the Mosque, or Buying Them for One’s Own House
Question
Tiles had previously been laid in the mosque, but when they became worn and weak they were pulled up and a solid floor was made; the tiles were taken up and are lying idle. Is it permissible to sell them, since shoes will then tread on them and there will be dirt as well, whereas people prayed on them for a long time? So what is the ruling on selling them, and under which heading should they be given?
Answer
It is better that it be bought for the floor of another mosque and used there. It is also correct for someone to buy it and set it in a wall: after being separated from the mosque it no longer has the ruling and the reverence it had in the mosque.
