Where the passage in Shami on decorating a mosque with impure wealth is found

Question

In Fatawa Dar al-‘Ulum, Imdad al-Muftiyyin and ‘Aziz al-Fatawa, vols. 5 and 6, p. 288, the following passage of Shami is quoted: [ar]قال تاج الشريعة: أما لو أنفق في ذلك مالًا خبيثًا أو مالًا مخلوطًا من الخبيث والطيب فيكره، لأن الله تعالى لا يقبل إلا الطيب، فيكره تلويث بيته بما لا يقبله[/ar] “Taj al-Shari‘a said: As for if he spends on that impure wealth, or wealth mixed of the impure and the pure, it is makruh, because Allah Most High accepts only what is pure, so it is makruh to sully His house with what He does…

Answer

In Shami, vol. 1, p. 442, in the chapter on what is makruh in prayer, under the heading “On the rulings of mosques”, there are the words of al-Durr al-Mukhtar: [ar]ولا بأس بنقشه خلا محرابه بجص وماء ذهب لو بماله الحلال[/ar] “There is no harm in decorating it — except its mihrab — with plaster and gold wash, if it is from his lawful (halal) wealth.
