Painting a mosque minaret in several colours

Question

The adhan minaret of the mosque has been painted in several colours. Painting with several kinds of colours is not permissible, because the imam has said that painting it this way has made it a mandir (Hindu temple). Kindly inform us of the correct answer.

Answer

Painting for beauty and adornment from the income of the waqf is not permitted. Whatever paint is suitable for strength and durability is permitted, provided there is nothing contrary to the Shari‘a in it (thus in Radd al-Muhtar).
