The text of al-Hidaya: sacrifice on behalf of minor children

Question

Question: The author of al-Hidaya has given in the base text (matn): [ar]الأضحية واجبة على كل مسلم مقيم موسر في يوم الأضحى عن نفسه وعن ولده الصغار[/ar] “The sacrifice is wajib upon every Muslim who is resident (muqim) and well-off, on the Day of Sacrifice, on his own behalf and on behalf of his minor children.” In this text the phrase “and on behalf of his minor children” occurs.

Answer

This narration was transmitted from the Imam (an honorific way of referring to Imam Abu Hanifa) by Hazrat Hasan ﵀, and it is contrary to the Zahir al-Riwaya (the principal transmitted positions of the school); according to the Zahir al-Riwaya, the sacrifice is not wajib on behalf of minor children.
