Sacrificing for a deceased person instead of for oneself
Question
Question: A certain person is so poor that sacrifice is not wajib upon him. If he did not take a share for himself and instead offered a sacrifice on behalf of one of his deceased relatives, will the sacrifice be permissible or not?
Answer
It is permissible — just as when a person is hungry and does not eat the food himself, but patiently gives it to someone else; that is permissible. However, if the deceased did not make a bequest, this sacrifice is discharged on behalf of the living person himself, and the deceased will also receive the reward (thawab).
