Talaq by the Words “Marry Your Daughter Off Somewhere”
Question
Question: (Copy of the letter of Azmat ‘Ali, which is in Hindi.) “Respected Sufi! Assalamu ‘alaykum. The matter is this: what I did to you was not good, and I have turned out to be a very bad man. I am helpless; now I can do nothing. I have posted this letter from Bombay. Tomorrow I am leaving Bombay for America for five years, so that I can escape the storm here.
Answer
In the translation of the husband’s letter there are these words: «آپ اپنی لڑکی کی شادی کہیں کر دینا» (“marry your daughter off somewhere”). From the context of the letter it is clear that by these words his intention was talaq; therefore by these words one irrevocable (ba’in) talaq has taken effect.
